IP addresses where two websites share the IP address are called shared IP addresses.In such cases, when one person looks for the first website, and arrives at the server of the websites, the server realizes which website the person is looking for, and sends the required page to the person.

In the web hosting world, sites with individual IP addresses, which are not shared with anyone else are said to have a static IP address.The IP address is enough for you to reach a site with a static IP address.

However in the case of a website using a shared IP address, it is not possible to reach the site just by typing in the IP address.You need to mention the domain name of the website you are looking for so that the server can direct you to the website you want.If you require more security for your website, it is important that you choose  a web host that offers you a static IP address.
